Description (What the record is about)
-
Longden Manor, Shrewsbury.
Draft of W. Swire's reply to the Bishop's Letter.
See 667/ 'I do not know who told you that Cruckton and Longden should for convenience go together. The person who would benefit by such an arrangement could only be Mr. Seddon'. Longden and Asterley are the third portion and have always gone together 'so I do not see how you can possibly object to a house being built for the rector'.
The original division was the fairest and Mr. Seddon certainly agreed to it 'We do not see why the wishes of the people living here are not to be considered and why we are not allowed to have a vicarage, as at present there is no house for the rector of the third portion.
Mr. Furley is very anxious to have something definitely arranged about a rectory as he is leaving his present house. On page 167 of the Hereford Diocesan Calendar Pontesbury third portion is one of the places mentioned where a residence for the incumbent is urgently required.
