The Grand Master's Lodge No. 1 was established in 1759 after a warrant was granted to the 1st Earl of Blessington, Grand Master of the Antients, constituting ' The officers of Grand Lodge to form and hold a lodge of Grand Officers to be called the Grand Master's Lodge'. The minutes show that the lodge had been meeting since 1756 but their meeting place within London is unknown. In 1787 the lodge was revived and met at the London Coffee House, Ludgate Hill, London. The lodge now meets at Freemasons' Hall, Great Queen Street, London. This is one of the nineteen lodges that have the privilege of nominating each year a member for appointment by the Grand Master as a Grand Steward and is therefore known as a Red Apron Lodge.
