Vice-President, Sedgley Park School, 1836 - 1844; President, Sedgley Park School, 1844 - 1848. After four years the Rev. Smith gave up his presidency to become a member of the Order of the Cistercians. The rest of his life was spent under the name of Father Robert in the Abbey of Mount St Bernard, Leicestershire.
