Ainley Bros. began as a partnership in 1923, run by the Ainley family, who still have an interest in the firm. It rapidly expanded, taking over or creating other firms which all became part of the Ainley Group.
The Group used to make and/or distribute all kinds of articles of clothing and other materials ranging from dishcloths and scourers to carpets. Much of their trade was with institutions hospitals, children's homes, poor law institutions, schools, etc.
In recent years trade has dropped, and the Group no longer manufactures its own goods, acting merely as distributor. Many of the firms formerly part of the Group have now been closed, and all activity is concentrated at Mount Works
