Administrative / biographical background

The House Committee was established by the Committee of Management on 15 March 1910 and held its first meeting on 22 March 1910. It was to decide on all matters connected with the internal management of the hospital, except those reserved for the Medical Committee, to appoint and dismiss all sisters, nurses and probationers on the recommendation of the matron and to receive a quarterly report from her on them, to read the House Visitors' reports and consider the suggestions in them, to write tenders for supplies, examine them and to recommend the best to the Committee of Management and to examine the bills and accounts and report to the Committee of Management. It was also supposed to confirm the appointment or dismissal of porters and other male servants by the secretary.
