Two boxes of lantern slides of Indian views (Photo 546/1-2), formerly the property of Colonel Richard Sydney Patrick Bates (b. 1897), Indian Army. Some of the slides are initialled M. V. B., possibly referring to his wife Molly. A note with the collection records that 142 of Bates' nitrate negatives were sent to Basildon (presumably for duplication onto safety film) on 24 September 1979. A note dated 28 March 1988 records that these were missing at that time and were presumably never returned from Basildon.
