The Bridlington Gas Light Co. was formed in 1836 and originally called Burlington Gas Light Co. The company was reconstituted in 1857 and the name was changed to Bridlington Gas Light Co. and again to Bridlington Gas Company in 1886. The first gasworks site was in Swindon Street. In 1857 the works was transferred to Quay Road (now Moorfield Rd). New plant was installed in 1937 and the works extended in 1949. On nationalisation in 1949 the undertaking became part of the Hull Group of NEGB.
