The letters to Dundas deal largely with delicate and secret matters, hence, pp. 275-6, W. Cabell's letter to Smith 21st July 1786 thanking him for his letters and promising secrecy as to the source of information. His high opinion of Hastings, David Anderson and John Shore is expressed on p. 35 et seq. and of Lord Macartney on p. 137. On p. 167 is a request that his son George, though only 9 years old, may be nominated to the Bengal Establishment. (2) pp. 49-54, Note on Trincomalee 1785.
