-
Ts. account (42pp, English translation from Dutch) written in February 1946 by Korteweg, an officer with the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army throughout the Second World War, to record the experiences of the 1000 (mainly Dutch) officers and men imprisoned at Batavia (April 1943) and subsequently in the Ambon region at Amahei (May-October 1943), Haroekoe (October 1943-April 1944) and Liang (April-August 1944). The account describes the increasingly sadistic behaviour of the Japanese, the worsening conditions experienced by the prisoners in the camps and on the voyages from and to Java (1943 and 1944), their work in constructing Japanese airfields and the frequent American air raids.
