Gallantry Notes: DCM: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Single-handed, with a Lewis gun, he carried the gun and ammunition to a position and fired the gun and loaded his magazines without assistance for twenty-four hours, during which period he assisted in breaking up two attacks. Later, he was wounded in the head by a sniper but continued to work his gun until ordered by his officer to the dressing station.
Med Mil: For conspicuous gallantry March 29/30 near Warfusee-Abancourt when a member of a Lewis gun detachment under 2 ?lt HW Whyte. This NCO worked a Lewis gun single handed during the period March 29/30th. He carried the gun and ammunition to a new position, fired the gun, and loaded the magazines without assistance for 24 hours, during which period he assisted in breaking up two attacks. On March 30th this NCO was wounded in the head by a sniper, but he continued to work his gun all day until ordered by his officer to the dressing station.;
