Petition from Copts in Egypt to Horatio Herbert Kitchener, 1st Viscount Kitchener of Khartoum (1914), British minister plenipotentiary, agent and consul-general in Egypt, that the administration of the income of 'Waqfs estimated at thousands of acres amounting to hundreds of thousands of pounds' be transferred from the Coptic clergy to 'a body of highly-trusted men, zealous for the community and responsible to the government'. The petition, which extends to one page, consists of 103 printed copies of the Coptic text, with in one instance (f.1) an English translation, and contains a large number of signatures, many of which are in red, mauve, blue, or green inks.
