The parish church of East Barnet is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin. Parts of the nave of the church date from the twelfth century. The church was repaired and extended in the early seventeenth century and again in 1868. Chipping Barnet was originally a chapel of East Barnet until about 1452. St Michael's mission at Brunswick Park was founded in 1896 and in 1906 became the parish of Barnet South. [See introduction to DP/16A for further details]
