Description

A Map of the Parish and Hundred of Martock in the County of Somerset 1823.

13.3" to 1 mile O.S. sheets 73SW; 82NW, SW.

Ink and water colour on linen backed paper.

Whole parish, including now separate parishes of Ash and Long Load. Numeration on this map and related maps was retained for use in the tithe apportionment and map, 1840. Parish and tithing boundaries are clearly marked.Footpaths, water, and fences, etc., shown. Place and tithing names given, and fence, etc., ownership is indicated. Key on map explains conventions used. There are books of reference to this map, and to that dated c.1823, in the parish records (D/P mart. 3/2/1-5). Of these, 3/2/3 and 3/2/5 are probably the most useful, 3/2/3 being a dated (1824), collected survey, arranged by tithings, and 3/2/5 a collected survey giving tithes and rateable values, in addition to names of owners, occupiers, acreages, and field, etc., names (c. 1825).

Rolled.
