Description (What the record is about)
-
Red half-leather bound album measuring 295x245mm, containing snapshots mostly mounted four to a page, with captions written in pencil beneath. Title as above stamped in gilt on front cover. The album binding is in very poor condition, with boards detached, most of the pages loose and cloth lifting from sides. The album contains two numerical sequences, prints 1-224 and 1-18. This second series is in fact part of the album Photo 1083/12, which starts at print 19. The album documents the progress of the Younghusband Mission to Tibet, from the embarkation of the 32nd Sikh Pioneers at Sahibganj in March 1903 to the arrival at Phari in January 1904. Much of the album is devoted to a record of camp life at Khamba Dzong, where the mission was based for several months.
