A collection of papers kept during his service as an officer cadet of the Strait Settlement Police in Singapore and relating to the mutiny of the 5th Light Infantry on 15 February 1915, including the ts report of the Court of Enquiry (25pp) concerning the execution of the convicted mutineers, the events leading up to and during the mutiny and an analysis of the probable causes of the trouble noting in particular the poor discipline in the Regiment and the presence of external German influences, together with a ts account (24pp) of the mutiny by Dickinson in which he comments on the popularity of the German community in Singapore and its internment in Tanglin Barracks, the forces available in Singapore at the time of the mutiny, the events of 15 February as they appeared to him and as they were later reported, and describing the courts martial and public executions; plus a ts letter (7pp) from the Inspector General of the Straits Settlement Police forwarding to the Colonial Secretary of Singapore a copy of the Court of Enquiry report and describing the role of the police in putting down the mutiny; two ts statements (3pp) on the court martial decisions posted up in Singapore; a printed plan (1p) of Tanglin Barracks; and several photographs of Singapore before the mutiny. Also held with the collection is a ts transcript (12pp) of a memorandum on the control of political intelligence in Malaya up to the fall of Singapore, written by Dickinson in January 1946 while serving as Inspector General of the Straits Settlement Police in Singapore, and giving his assessments of the efficacy of political intelligence and of the allegiances of the major population groups during the war.
