Description

Occassioned by the leasing of the castle to W.C. Brooks, Esq. and the listing and storage of the contents of the castle; includes lists of books (numbers only) and of jewellry ('a single large Diamond...of Hen. IV of France to Peregrine Lord Willoughby d'Eresby'); the writer expresses strong disapproval of the changes and concern about the fate of the moveable property ('who will direct that all those Charters and Documents removed from the safe here will be returned or accounted for by any one?) and a low opinion of the new tenant and his friends ('It appears to me that this is a Manchester Party merely taken it on speculation of making it pay and giving Sport to others of their clique, all Common people')
