Administrative / biographical background

St Margaret's was consecrated on 20th July 1869, the architect being George Edmund Street. It was brought to the attentionof the public by the controversy concerning the first two vicars, the Rev. Charles Parnell (because of alleged High Church practices) and the Rev. James Bell-Cox. The high alter and sanctuary were destroyed by enemy action in 1942 but were reconsecrated in October 1951
