'ENCLOSURES TO SECRET LETTERS FROM BOMBAY.', Vol 31

The volume contains Enclosures to Despatches, and Abstracts of Contents of Despatches, from the Government of Bombay Secret Department to the East India Company Secret Committee. The volume is divided into five items:. Enclosures to a General Letter, dated 31 March 1841, No. 27 of 1841, relating to the situation in Sinde [Sindh], Afghanistan, and elsewhere (IOR/L/PS/5/393, ff 1-384); Abstract of Contents of a Despatch dated 26 April 1841, No. 28 of 1841, relating to cavalry troops serving in Sinde [Sindh] (IOR/L/PS/5/393, ff 385-420); Enclosures to a Despatch dated 26 April 1841, No. 29 of 1841, relating to the Persian Gulf (IOR/L/PS/5/393, ff 421-639); Enclosures to a Despatch to the Secret Committee dated 27 April 1841, No. 30 of 1841, relating to a mission to the King of Shoa [Shewa] (IOR/L/PS/5/393, ff 640-795); Abstract of Contents of a Despatch dated 28 April 1841, No. 31 of 1841, relating to the steam flotilla on the River Indus (IOR/L/PS/5/393, ff 796-802)

The enclosures to each Despatch within the volume are divided by blue dividers (however, the enclosures to the first despatch, folios 1-384, include an additional divider on folio 134, between enclosure No. 39 and No. 40). The Enclosures to each Despatch are arranged in chronological order from the front to the rear of the volume. The Enclosures within each Despatch are preceded by an Abstract of Contents, in which the Despatch itself (not included) is numbered 1, the Abstract of Contents 2, and the Enclosures 3, 4, etc. The numbers listed in the Abstract of Contents are recorded for reference on the last verso of each Enclosure, along with the original reference, and a description of each Enclosure.
