WALKER FAMILY: PRIVATE PAPERS

These appear to be mainly the paper of Andrew Barclay Walker, most often in acting as executor for his father's and uncles estates (although some of these executors papers date beyond his own death). The purely personal correspondence of the uncles (mainly Robert and David), dating from before their deaths, may well have been inherited in the course of ABW's activities as executor, and provides an insight into the wider business interests of the family. These mainly loose and miscellaneous papers provide the only evidence here, for example, (albeit sparse), of the Walkers' coal mining activities. (The private correspondence of ABW is listed fully in Appendix A.) Both personal papers and the business records of the pre-1890 companies listed in section 2/, below, were found together, indicating the close relationship of family and business finances and interests
