From: Letters & Effects of Frederick Charles Plummer as supplied to City of London HQ RRF (Tower of London) by surviving daughter (Violet Plummer) 1983:
born 24/1/1886 at Victoria Barracks, Hong Kong. Son of 20843 Cpl Fdk Plummer serving with 5/1 Eastern Div RA, and Maria Aridale(nee Halloran). Had one brother - David Plummer. Educated privately. Married 1908 May Ethel St.John at St Pancras. 1891 census for22 New North St, Holborn shows her as the d. of Harry, a carpenter and of Mary Ann St John.
Fdk & May had two daughters, Olive Lilian May, born St Pancras 19/9/1909 and who died 15/12/19175 and Violet Ethel born B'ham 27/3/1912. Mrs Plummer, a widow in 1917, with two small children took work with the Aeronautical Inspection Dept. Did not re-marry - died 6/10/1956.
Fdk Plummer was employed as Asst Manager, Maples, Tottenham Court Rd, from 1921 and on 1/12/1914 attested to serve in the 3(City of London) Bn, London Regt. Posted to 2 Bn 26/12/1914 and appointed L/Cpl with 3/3 Bn. on 20/2/1915 and L/Cpl 24/4/1915. Embarked Southampton 5/5/1915. Took part in Battle of Festubert 16/5/1915. From Nov-Dec 1915 treated several times in the Field for Pyrexia. On 22 Jan 19156 whilst at Woodcote Park Convalescent Hospital, Epsom was examined with a view to be offered a Commsn. On disch from hospital, posted to 4/3 Depot Bn where he was recommended for Commsn with 10 Bn. From 25/5/1916 to 3/6/1916 (now with "G" Coy, 3 Resd Bn) attended Lewis MG Course at MG School Fovant - passed with Distinguished Certificate. On 7/7/1916 attached 8 OCB, Litchfield. Commsn as 2/lt 25/10/1916. Disch from 3 Londons 21/11/1916.
Joined 215 MG Coy (58 Div) 21/3/1917 - part of 5th Army. Took part in the Battle of the Menin Rd 20-25 Sept 1917. KIA on the evening of 23 Sept 1917 - wounds to head and body.
