Henrietta, Duchess of Gordon: original letter from John Gordon-Aboyne to Duchess [at that date still Marchioness of Huntly] recommending her to choose her father or father-in-law, the Duke, as arbitrator in some dispute between herself and her husband [annotated in her hand that this is John Gordon, 3rd son of the late Earl of Aboyne]. 2 May 1714
Asks for help for her husband, who is to be separated from his family for five years [letter dated in Ld C's hand 18 Feb 1714/15, but query this correct].

Original letter from R Strachan to the Duchess, acknowledging her commands, hearily regrets that she "persists in the design for England". [Endorsed "A Jesuit, to Lady Huntly"]. 7 April 1715 Aberdeen
She has been told that her chaplain has to register as an Episcopal minister keeping a meeting house. She finds it difficult to keep a chaplain in Scotland, but her children and the poor people need him. Requests that the King may be approached for permission to keep and help maintain her chaplain. [The Duchess maintained the Episcopal church, and instructed her children in it. The Duke was a Roman Catholic]. 20 May 1720 Gordon Castle
