Indenture between John Harries late of Middle Temple, London, gent., now of Lincoln's Inn Fields, and Frances his wife 1st part, Most noble George Duke & Earl of Manchester, Viscount Mandeville and baron Montagu, Sir Henry Oxenden of Broome Kent, baronet, Henry Herbert of High Clere, South Hants, Hon & Rev.
William Neville rector of Burghclere, whereas by indenture January 21 1775 between John and Frances Harries and John Cotes of Woodcote, 465/172-173 Whereas John and Frances Harries have applied to George Duke of Manchester etc. for loan of £4000 on the security of several messuages, tithes, lands etc. Grant and release by Frances and John Harries to George Duke of Manchester etc. for consideration of £4000, of all premises mentioned in indenture 1775, John Cotes and heirs by Virtue of deed, to be seised of premises, to the use of George Duke of Manchester etc. Subject to proviso after given. Release by John and Frances Harries to George Duke of Manchester etc. messuage called The Hall of Sibdon Carwood, 1 garden hempbutts, and backside belonging, all lands, meadows, leasows pastures feedings, woods, :- The Well Yard, The Pitt Meadow leasow, the Two Pitt meadows, the Guildy Bruch, the Great Henley, the Great Furlong, the New Inclosure, the Gutter and Gutters Meadow, the Low Leasow and meadows, the Barley leasow and Crooked lands, the Short Furlong and Guildy Meadow, the Great Line acres, the Little Line acres, and the line acres meadow, the three Great Leasows, the Line croft meadow, the two great meadows, the cold Hills and meadows, the Cow Leasow, the Little Hale and the Bray meadow, and messuage called William Greenwoods tenement, several pieces of land, the backside, the two Carbuges, the three inclosures in the field, the Long Acres, the Stockin Line Croft meadow, the Darling Silch, and the Mell, all of which premises are in Sibdon Carwood formerly of John Tasker, also messuage called The Bruches, 4 parcels called the Pikes, 5 parcels called The Bruches, one meadow called the Long Meadow, in Sibdon Carwood one piece of ground called The Slang, 3 pieces called The Stockins Land, in township of Broome, parish of Sibdon and Rowton parish of Stoke, formerly of Francis Tipton all after in several holdings of Edward Fleming, James Lloyd, John Edwards, Thomas Evans, and Thomas Pugh, now a late or Gilbert Fleming, died James Lloyd, John Edwards,-Roberts, John Oliver, Richard Morris, purchased by Edward Fleming from Ann Tasker, widow of Jno and Jno their son, Chapel and tithes glebeland and advowson of Edgton, To have and to hold by George Duke of Manchester etc. for ever, proviso that if £4000 and interest of 5% repaid by John and Francis Harries to George Duke of Manchester etc. by March 6, 1777. premises able to be reoccupied by John and Frances Harries. In default of payment by John and Frances Harries lawful for George Duke of Manchester etc. to enter premises and enjoy issues and profits of same. Until default of payment has been by John and Frances Harries, lawful for them to receive rents, issues and profits of premises. Interest on principal sum of £4000 to be at £4-10 per £100 per year, and at no higher rate, unless payment delayed 60 days or more when interest to be increased to £5 per £100
In witness of agreement signed by John Harries and Frances Harries, in the presence of John Burford, clerk to Mr. George Richards the New Inn, Thomas Swan clerk to John Harries. Receipt for £4000 received by John and Frances Harries from George Duke of Manchester etc. signed by John Burford and Thomas Swan. March 22 1812. Examined with the original of which this is a true copy by us, William Whiston. Law Stationer Worcester, of James Yeomans his clerk. Lease Docketed: "September 5th 1776. Mr. John Harries and wife to Duke of Manchester. Attested copy lease for a year.
