This collection consists of copy papers which document Josef Mengele's early life and career in the SS and also his life in exile in South America. Information about the provenance is not known.

The collection is arranged into three sub-groups: copy material, the originals of which are in held in the Berlin Document Centre. (these include such items as Mengele's war record, cv, and material relating to his marriage); copy material mostly written by Mengele (the originals of the correspondence between him and family members in Germany throughout the 1970s are apparently in the possession of the Mengele family); and copy material about Mengele.
