Deposited by Horsham District Council between 1975 and 1981

In 1875 a Local Board of Health was established for Horsham under the Local Government Act, 1858. For a detailed description of the boundaries of the local government district of Horsham see UD/HO/24/3. These boundaries were extended in 1879, see UD/HO/24/6-8.

The Local Board was succeeded in December 1894 by Horsham U.D.C. which was formed under the terms of the Local Government Act, 1894.

As the rural areas surrounding the town have changed character so the boundaries of the Urban District have been extended. In July 1901 the "County of West Sussex (Horsham Extension) Confirmation Order" transferred part of Horsham R.D.C. to the U.D.C. For details see UD/HO/24/12 and County Council Records WOC/CC7/1/4.

The boundaries of Horsham U.D.C. were subject to further changes in 1927 when the "West Sussex (Horsham Urban District) Confirmation Order" transferred another part of the rural district to Horsham U.D.C. See UD/HO/24/23 for details of the area involved, and County Council Records WOC/CC6/3 No. 21 and WOC/CC7/1/11.

During the W.S.C.C. review of Districts 1929-1932 the U.D.C. proposed further extensions but these met with the resistance of Horsham R.D.C. and the County Council did not recommend any further changes.
