This file includes one hundred and ninety-seven letters and telegrams exchanged between Erik Brown, H.O. McCurry, and Kathleen Fenwick of the National Gallery of Canada and sixty-three draft letters and telegrams from Oppé, dated between 10 May 1937-19 Mar 1957: the entire period of Oppé's engagement with the Gallery.
The correspondence includes extensive discussion of works proposed for acquisition. It also includes discussion of administrative and financial matters; reports on the activities involved in purchasing the items and occasional queries from other correspondents (forwarded to Oppé from the Gallery).
The file also includes financial documents and a list of the works from Oppé's collection sent to Canada for safekeeping during the Second World War (with insurance details).
