Administrative / biographical background

Vitruvian Lodge was granted a warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge in 1813 to meet as No. 637 at the George Inn, Gloucester Road, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire. After the union between the Moderns' Grand Lodge and the Antients' Grand Lodge to form the United Grand Lodge of England in 1813, the Lodge was renumbered as No. 644. The Lodge was renumbered again in 1832 to meet as No. 423 before being renumbered for the final occasion in 1863 to meet as No. 338. The Lodge met at the King's Head Inn, High Street, Ross from 1818, at the Swan Hotel, Edde Cross Street, Ross from 1830 and the Royal Hotel, near St Mary's Church, Ross, from 1843. The Lodge now meets at the Masonic Hall, Wilton Road, Roos-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
