Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of three guns in reserve which he took forward through a heavy barrage opening fire on ememy massing for continuation of an attack. Later, he volunteered to go out on a roving commission and eventually took up a position which was heavily attacked, but he pushed forward, inflicting heavby casualties on the enemy and silencing their guns. Subsequently he moved to a position covering an unprotected flank and held out until all his ammunition had been expended and a new line organised. His coolness, gallantry and resource were most marked.
War Diary 206 Coy 25/9/1917: "This officer displayed gallantry and coolness in the handling of three machine gun teams during the operations at Bullecourt 15/6/1917 anf 17/6/1917 and by his example inspired all his men. This officer has in additione performed consistent good service for the period under review";
