Correspondence and papers of William Scott (1813-1872), Perpetual Curate of Christ Church, Hoxton 1839-60, and Vicar of St. Olave, Jewry, London, from 1860. Scott was the editor of 'The Christian Remembrancer' and an influential supporter of high-church principles. He was President of Sion College in 1858. ff. 1-12. Newman's draft of the second letter is addressed to the editor of the Saturday Review [John Douglas Cook (d.1868)] who apparently passed the letter to Scott. f. 188. Fifty-four letters to Scott from Henry Phillpotts (1778-1869), Bishop of Exeter, including letters relating to the Gorham judgment and other controversies, publications, Sion College, and personal and ecclesiastical affairs. 1847-68 and n.d. (ff. 201-332). With thirteen letters to Scott from Phillpotts' daughter, Sybella du Boulay (c.1818-1899), partly written on behalf of her father, 1864-69 and n.d. Note

Over 7,000 printed pamphlets from Scott's collection were given by him to Sion College and are now at Lambeth Palace Library. They were given by Scott in some 10 batches between 1859 and 1870 (see Sion L40.2/E64, Book of Benefactors, pp. 401-8). A catalogue of them (3 vols) was compiled at Sion College in 1876.
