Administrative / biographical background

In 1911 a contributory scheme was established by which working men could assist the East Surrey Hospital at Redhill and secure their own free treatment there, by subscribing 1d a week. The scheme was supported by the employees of many local businesses. In 1942 it became the East Surrey Hospital Contributory Scheme.
