Draft letter from the Local Government Board to Walter May Barton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union in response to his letter dated 11 April 1885 requesting sanction to the proposal of the guardians to award a gratuity of £1 to Isaac Gould, an inmate of the workhouse in consideration of work done by him whilst in the workhouse. The Board states that they are not aware of any legal authority for the payment of the proposed gratuity.
