Title
1910 DOMESDAY VALUATION BOOKS and maps.
Date
c.1903 - 1924
Description

As a result of the Finance Act 1910 Inland Revenue Valuation Offices were obliged to undertake a survey of land valuation for their districts. The resulting Domesday Books or Duties on Land Values provide basic information for each hereditament in England and Wales, relative to the valuation of the property, including the valuation assessment number, map reference, owner, occupier, situation and extent. Inns and Public Houses are named with, in the cases of towns, full postal addresses. The second edition Ordnance Survey 25" sheets formed the basis of the maps for the valuation and those series for the Bath and Weston-super-Mare valuation districts are held at the Somerset Record Office. Unfortunately those for the Taunton district were destroyed at the local office.

The Domesday books are numbered under the bundle arrangement inherited from the Public Record Office. In certain cases where a parish valuation extends for a few pages into another volume those pages have been removed and placed with the preceding volume. Some parishes have a separate section for a mineral valuation and many have additional notices of attention up to 1924.

When ordering the relevant 25" sheet it is necessary to quote the sheet number and the particular district; ie DD/IR b for Bath or DD/IR w for Weston-super-Mare. However, there are some gaps in the map coverage of these districts; for list see DD/IR catalogue.
