This trust, established in 1704, provided for the maintenance of three Presbyterian ministers in Lancaster, Carnforth and Tatham. The Presbyterian chapel in Lancaster was situated in St. Nicholas Street; the congregation later became Unitarian, and since the other chapels had also ceased to exist, the trust funds were diverted in 1865 to the support of education in Arkholme. Arkholme school was opened in June, 1868. A new trust scheme was approved by the Charity Commissioners in 1902 (for further details of this charity up to 1900 see Charity Commissioners' Reports for Lancashire, Vol.6, p.1829-1831).
