Copy print. Note with the print reads: 'Negative of an unidentified photograph in the possession of the Royal Asiatic Society. Now identified on the basis of the portrait in Hobson Jobson, 1st edn.'. Burnell (1840-1882) was a Sanskrit scholar and co-author of Hobson-Jobson: A glossary of colloquial Anglo-Indian words and phrases.
