Collection of 54 miscellaneous items relating to his escape from Germany as a student on the outbreak of war in 1914, together with training and service with the Inns of Court OTC and the 18th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (34th Division) in England. Also pertaining to service in France from March 1916 to May 1917 attached to the 17th Battalion (32nd Division and GHQ Railway Construction Troops), and subsequently service in India 1917-18 as an officer of the 2-34th Sikh Pioneers (1st and 2nd Indian Division); also as an officer of the 3rd Battalion North Riding Home Guard 1941-44. There are in addition 10 items mainly relating to his wife's service with the Women's National Land Service Corps in Somerset 1918, and as a medical officer of health during the Second World War in Essex.

John Andrew Jellicoe, a second cousin of Admiral Jellicoe, was born in Chelsea in 1897 and educated at Bradfield College Berks., and was studying in Germany when forced to return home on the outbreak of war. Joining the Inns of Court OTC in October 1914, he was commissioned in the 18th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (1st Tyneside Pioneers) (34th Division) in February 1915. Attached to the 17th Battalion (North Eastern Railway Pioneers) he served in France from March 1916 (32nd Division and GHQ Railway Construction Troops).
In May 1917 he was granted a probationary commission in the Indian Army Reserve of officers, serving in India from August 1917 until released in October 1919, attached to the 2-34th Sikh Pioneers (1st and 2nd Indian Divisions). He became a Captain in 1919. From 1922 he managed a manufacturing business in Middlesborough, and during the Second World War joined the 3rd Battalion North Riding Home Guard, becoming a Major in 1944.
