Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Although he was gassed before the enemy attack was launched, he remained in command and personally directed the fire of three guns. When one gun was put out of action, he fired another himself until it was necessary to make his withdrawal, which he effected successfully to the new position. By his cool and level-headed behaviour he inspired all ranks with confidence.;
