A straightforward and entertaining ts memoir (194pp), written ca 1950, covering his training as an RNVR signalman in the shore establishment HMS ROYAL ARTHUR at Skegness (September - November 1939) and his service in various minesweeping trawlers and drifters based on Sheerness (December 1939 - June 1940); his appointment to a commission in the RNVR after training in HMS KING ALFRED and service in a number of Combined Operations training centres and at the the RN Signal School, Portsmouth (July 1940 - April 1941); his qualification as a Fleet Air Arm pilot at Flying Training Schools in Luton and Kingston, Canada and his eventual posting to the RN Air Station at Trinidad where he was employed on training flights for observers and anti-submarine patrols (April 1941 - July 1943); his return to the United Kingdom and further training, mainly flying Swordfish, at the RN Air Stations Crail and Easthaven (August 1943 - April 1944); and his service with No 819 Squadron, flying Swordfish, stationed on RAF Manston, then in support of the Normandy landings and RAF Bircham Newton and finally Bruges in Belgium and operating against enemy shipping in the English Channel and off the Dutch coast (April 1944 - March 1945).
