Folio 298. Draft letter from the Local Government Board to James Saunders, Clerk to the East Dereham Local Board in the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union. They are replying to his letter of 19 December 1879 on the subject of the claim made by the Unitary Sanitary Authority for the district of East Dereham for repayment from the parliamentary grant of a moiety of the salaries of the sanitary officers for the year ended 1 August 1878. The Board have considered the further representations made by the Unitary Sanitary Authority and have concluded that they appear to have been under the impression that it was necessary that the vouchers for the salaries paid should be submitted to the auditor before the claim for repayment could be made. It has therefore dealt with the case as an exceptional one and has accordingly arranged that the repayment for the period in question will be made. They remind him that in future the repayments must be applied for before the expiration of the financial year within which they are to be made, even if the audit of the accounts has not taken place. They request the return of the return and vouchers, which had previously been returned to him.
