Well written ts memoir (400pp) recording his service as an officer with the Royal Corps of Signals in Egypt, Palestine and Germany, September 1943 - June 1946, including: his voyage to Port Said on the troopship Reina del Pacifico, September 1943; acclimatisation in Egypt, September 1943 - October 1943; active service as a Signal Master with Ninth Army Signals in the Lebanon and then in Palestine for a large military exercise (CROCODILE) training the 4th Indian and 10th Indian Divisions for their move to Italy; learning Turkish for a proposed military mission to Turkey which did not materialise; modifying and renewing the telegraph lines in the Transjordan, Palestine, and Egypt; commanding the 152nd Line Maintenance Section in Italy and North West Europe, December 1944 - ?June 1945, and the main Communication Centre at Wesel, ?June 1945 - June 1946, when he returned to the UK and was demobilised; and commenting on conditions and life in the desert; relations with Arabs and Jews, including the Arab Legion and various Zionist Groups, New Zealand troops and one of the few Russian units serving in Egypt; an attack on the Police HQ in Jerusalem by the Stern Gang; the conditions in Italy; the devastation in Germany; accepting the surrender of a German parachute regiment; and accidentally driving into the Belsen Concentration Camp; several 'brushes' with groups of Russian displaced persons and assisting in their repatriation to the Soviet Union.

This typescript copy of Hunting's memoirs entitled, 'War Signals', is an extremely well written account of his period of service as a Lieutenant in the Royal Corps of Signals. Hunting had served as a Non-commissioned Officer in the Signals for three years before spending a year as an Officer Cadet. He was commissioned in July 1943 and his memoirs begin in September 1943 when he was posted to Egypt.
