Born 1/4/96 at Warlies, Waltham Abbey the son of Thomas Fowell Victor Buxton (described as Esquire) and Anne Louisa Matilda Buxton (formerly O’Rorke). His father who was subsequently knighted was later assoc with Woodredon, Waltham Abbey, Essex. His commission application for the Special Reserve of Officers, dated 18/2/15, states that he wanted a commission in 6 Rifle Brigade, he was unmarried, educated at Cambridge University, permanent address Woodredon, he was a student who was educated at Marlborough College where he was a Sgt in the OTC having left 18/12/14. Height 6' 1", weight 154lbs. In June 1917 his father was 52, mother was 50, brothers T Frowell Buxton, Roden HV Buxton, Clarence EV Buxton, Maurice V Buxton, Rupert EV Buxton, sister Lucy Victoria Buxton. An informants report by Gunner G Cox 17863 MGC who was in 2nd London General Hospital at Chelsea ‘Informant states that on 1 July in the morning at Albert we were attacking. I saw Lieutenant Buxton wounded and fall about 50 yards in front of our own trenches. His servant carried him back and placed him in a dug-out in our own trenches, no more was seen of him and the dug-out was blown to pieces but we did not know whether he had been removed before that happened or not.’ (Officers Papers PRO);Other Notes: BUXTON, Second Lieutenant, JOCELYN MURRAY VICTOR, 6th Bn.
