Dock and Harbour Engines (29 items).

New 46 inch pump for emptying reservoirs. Pump worked by the 36 inch engine erected in 1828.

Sketches of the reservoirs and 2 36 inch pumps by William Creighton, 14 Apr. 1830; small sheet of calculations of water lifted by 36 inch pump; sheet of calculations of water lifted by various combinations of pumps, May 1830; coloured section and plans of the reservoirs - rough and final versions; sketch of 2 pumps and water levels etc.; 2 sheets of rough plans of the reservoirs, with extensive pencil calculations; pencil section showing various water and tide levels, floors etc.; coloured section marked "Depth of the Filtering Reservoirs" with bar charts of tide levels in 1829 - rough and final versions; coloured plan and section of the reservoirs and engine house; "Memorandum relative to the scheme of throwing the 3 reservoirs of the West India Docks into one, and Pumping from one common level and delivering the Water from the Engine into the Discharging Pipe of the Entrance Basin".

For the West India Dock Co. This new pump replaced one of the pumps originally worked by the 36 inch engine erected in 1828, following complaints by the firm that the engine was not raising the amount of water it should have been doing.
