Description

Photocopy of a ts memoir (71pp) covering his service as a junior paymaster officer in HMS WARSPITE (5th Battle Squadron, Battle Cruiser Fleet) in Home waters from July 1915 - July 1916, including the Battle of Jutland, in HMS FALMOUTH (3rd Light Cruiser Squadron, Battle Cruiser Fleet) from July 1916 until she was sunk by submarine in the North Sea on 19 August 1916, and in the light cruiser HMS WEYMOUTH from September 1916 - April 1919, including service on the North America and West Indies Station from December 1916 - April 1917 and with the 8th Light Cruiser Squadron, British Adriatic Force based on Brindisi and nominally under the Italian Navy from July 1917 - April 1919; and throughout the Second World War as medical officer to the Signals Training Centre at Catterick Camp, except from December 1940 - May 1941 when he was Senior Medical Officer in the troopship ANSELM during her passage out to Suez in Convoy WS5A, which was attacked by the German cruiser HIPPER, and then back to the United Kingdom. Three original ship's concert programmes from 1916 - 1918 are preserved with the memoir.
