Immediate source of acquisition

They were received by Huntingdonshire Record Office as accession 1128 in 1965.

Custodial history

These volumes are believed to have been transferred in c.1858 originally to the Principal Probate Registry in London, and thence to Hertfordshire Record Office.

Administrative / biographical background

The 'Hitchin Division' of the archdeaconry covered most of north and west Hertfordshire. At various stages it had a separate registrar appointed to arrange the court process.
