Description (What the record is about)
-
These documents have mostly been retained in the bundles as found, but it is unclear whether these were all original bundles. Some of the properties may tie in with others because they were united at later dates, but in most cases it is not clear if this happened or what final form the property took. Some families feature prominently in the land ownership of certain rural areas, but this has not been taken as a reason to suppose that their properties were united.
The abstract of title to the Chartley Estate, although apparently relating only to two Lots in the sale of the estate, does recite documents relating to the entire Chartley Estate. It is missing at least one back page, but this seems to be historic, as the last remaining page has been used as a cover to receive annotation.
The Jervis family of Stafford were builders and contractors who acquired a large amount of property in the town. Among the documents of interest in this section is a lease of The Hough Cottage in Lichfield Road for use by Stafford Girls High School, 1909 [D5578/3/2/14].
Another building of interest is the Primitive Methodist Chapel at Brockton, p. Eccleshall. The conveyance of land for this building took place in 1867 [D5578/7/1].
The section of wills [D5578/9] is a sample from the clients' papers of Hand Morgan & Owen.
