East Sussex County Council: preliminary records for town maps

The plans listed below consist of a preliminary plan for the County Development Plan, and another for the Copthorne Village Plan of 1965 (for which see C/P 36/3). A third plan, relating to the Burgess Hill Town Plan, was transferred to R/A13 when that class was created on the receipt of 77 plans relating to the scheme from Lewes District Council in 1998.

Under the Town and Country Planning Act 1947 the County Council was responsible for the preparation of a development plan which included town maps for urban areas in the county. The published material submitted to the Minister of Housing and Local Government and approved in 1973 is listed as C/P 1/75-80. All three plans originally listed as DL/A/9 were passed by the County Council, 1 below in error, to Lewes District Council in 1974 when the preparation of such local plans became a district responsibility.
