Description (What the record is about)
-
Full-leather album stamped 'A. J. L. Pritchard' in gold on front cover, with ruled decoration in gold. Album measures 236x284mm and prints are mounted on card and bound in without borders. A letter from the donor, Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Parker, pasted onto the front free endpaper, states that he found the album while browsing in a bookshop in Vancouver. Both he and Pritchard had been commissioned into the South Staffordshire Regiment and had subsequently transferred to the Indian Army, both being posted to the Q.V.O. Corps of Guides: 'We were part of the Force which took action in the 3rd Afghan War of 1919; and later, another action in Waziristan in 1920. Tich [ie Pritchard] bought these photos of Waziristan and groups of the Regiment. I was with him when he put this album together...'. The album contains views taken during the Waziristan Campaign of 1919-20 (prints 1-32), topographical views of Kashmir (prints 33-40) and groups of the 3rd Battalion Q.V.O. Corps of Guides, F.F. A few prints are captioned in the negatives, and captions for many of the remainder can be obtained from the Holmes catalogue where a negative number is given with the print. Process = Platinum prints. Photographers = Randolph Bezzant Holmes,;.
