This is a continuation of the interview between Ken Wood and Charles Parker, Chris Rogers & Dave Rogers.
Ken provides examples of community and commercial uses made of Alumwell School's facilities, with comments on the caretaking consequences and financial opportunities available to the school (Track 1). He discusses the impact of public expenditure cutbacks on school cleaning and maintenance services, and also on cleaners' pay rates (Tracks 10 - 13) and he comments on approaches taken by Walsall Council (Track 12) and Solihull Council (Track 13).
Examples of working class experiences before the NHS was introduced are given. (Tracks 2 - 8). The need to pay for medical services is described (Track 2) and the role of friendly societies and the Co-operative Society is outlined (Tracks 3 - 4). A description of the 'means test' is given (Tracks 5 - 6). The selection of daily casual labour by Sringer's Pit (later the nationalised Parkmill Colliery) is noted (Track 6).
Observations are made about the exploitation of black people in domestic service in Rhodesia (later Zimbabwe) during World War Two (Track 7). Post war conditions in Woolley Colliery are also considered (Tracks 7 - 8).
