Title

Date

Description

Baptisms 9 May 1586 - 26 October 1645

20 October 1658 - 16 June 1717

Marriages 24 April 1586 - 17 December 1717

Burials 30 March 1586 - 18 September 1717

Baptism entries 1586-1606 duplicated, with a note explaining that the entries at front of book incorrectly entered. A number of baptisms and burials, 1644-6, 1649, the burial entries apparently only duplicating those in body of the register, on p.78.

Originally foliated top right and ruled 1-48 (many numbers no longer legible). Paginated 1-100 when repaired in 1986. Pages 87-100 apparently an extension of the original book, presumably in 1703, as they are of a different quality of parchment and differently ruled.

One double sheet (original fos.10-11, between pp.18 and 19) containing baptisms 1644/5-1658, and another (original fos. 30-1, between pp.44 and 45), probably blank, removed or lost. The former defect was noted before 1912 by Evelyn Young (Cambridgeshire Parish Registers, v, 131) and was probably lost much earlier. The left-hand sides of the double sheets of which pp.23-4, 27-8, 29-30 and 31-2 are the right-hand sides, i.e. original fos. 14, 17, 19, 21, have been cut out, probably to use blank parchment. The right-hand sides have therefore been folded to the right of the original centre fold to re-sew. The following entry, legible only whilst the book was disbound for repair, occurs down the inner margin of page 27:

1685 Mary Ribshee, the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Ribshe Baptized Feb. 12 168[5]

At the time when the register was rebound it was evidently also trimmed at the foot (see, for example, the foot of the second column on p.51).

Eighteenth-century childrens' writing on various pages, and written over burial entries for 1652: a full page of verse after the baptisms for 1691: writing signed by William and Ann Waits.
