It was ordered that the thanks of the House be given to the Rev. Mr. Mainwaring for his sermon in the Cathedral before the Mayor and Corporation on Sunday, 25th inst. the anniversary of the King's accession and that he be asked to print it. Alderman William Cowper, Esq. was to wait upon him.

Upon reading the petition of Mr. Thomas Marsden, merchant, for a grant to him and his heirs of a Row or passage, 36 feet long by 9 feet, under his house in further Northgate Street to enlarge his house, a grant was ordered to be made on payment of 30s. fine.

Upon application of the Guardians of the General Workhouse for a lease for the remainder of the term in the Workhouse, of ground adjoining the same, 42 ft. long by 22 feet broad, (ZA/B/4/196) it was ordered that the Justices of the Peace, Sheriffs and Treasurers, or any five, mark out the ground and that a lease be made to the Guardians of the Poor in the City, soon to be incorporated by Act of Parliament, paying 5s. a year rent.

The several Aldermen and Sheriffs, or any seven, with Mr. Thomas Marsden, Mr. Henry Hesketh and Mr. Charles Boswell were to be a committee to report on the possible use of the City lands on the north-west side of the Roodee and the expense and profits for making a dock and quay for the reception of vessels, and whether this should be done by the Corporation borrowing money at interest or the land be leased to persons to erect warehouses and to make a dock and quay. The committee was also to report whether a new road should be made over the Roodee to these lands on the north-west side, taking in the old road, or whether the old road should be repaired occasionally. The committee were to have plans and estimates at the Corporation's expense - Whereas

1. The lands of Owen Jones, deceased, in Minera, col Denbigh (ZA/B/4/196v) had been left by him in trust for the use of the City companies in rotation under the management of the Mayor and Sheriffs.

2. The lands and mines and minerals there on the 7th June 1757 were demised by the Mayor and Sheriffs with the consent of the companies to Thomas Slaughter, Esq. Philip Phernyhough, Doctor of Physic, and Alderman Richardson for a long term at rent payable every 5th July. The farms or reservations in money for every ton of lead ore or other minerals were to be placed at interest and the annual interest applied as were the rents and other profits.

3. Considerable quantities of lead ore had lately been raised and it seemed it would last.

4. The Corporation was indebted by bond to Mr. John Lawton, one of the Council, in £100 and by bond and mortgage, and by an Assembly order of 26th December, 1760, in £600 and £200 to Mr. Thomas Brock, Town Clerk, and to Thomas Slaughter and Henry Hesketh, Esq. as Trustees for the Blue Coat or Charity School in £1,600 secured by bond and mortgage.
