Description

His body to be buried in the parish church of S. Bride's, where Mary, his first wife is interred.

To his son, John Singleton, his free and leasehold lands in the manor of Egham, Surrey, tenement in Finsbury, Middlesex, and his tenements and lands in Spalding, Lincs.

To his daughter, Rebecca Hopkins, for her distinct maintenance separate from her husband Joshua. £52 p.a. to be paid her quarterly. If he dies and she marry again, £420 to be paid her on her marriage and the annuity to cease.

To the first child to be born to her - £250 to be paid at 21 or marriage, interest of £5% p.a. - the interest, for about ten years, to be spent if need be in the child's maintenance.

To his daughter Rebecca £60.

To her husband Joshua £20.

To his daughter Elizabeth Rollestone £200 which her husband owes him by bond, the bond to be delivered up to her.

To her also, distinct from her husband, £10 p.a. to be paid quarterly.

Also £10, and to her husband £20.

To his sisters (if living) - Jane Shore and Elizabeth Barnes £7 each.

To his cousin Jane, daughter of his sister Jane £5.

To Anne Barnes al. Bridgman, £5 and to Mary Barnes al. Sawyer 40 shillings.

To Tho. Sawyer, son of Mary Sawyer and to Mary Bridgeman, daughter of Anne Bridgman, £20 each to be paid at 21, with interest at £4% per annum.

To Elizabeth Fuller 20/-.

To his good friend Elizabeth Chislett 2 Broad pieces.

To his son John Singleton his silver sconce and chaffing dish.

To his daughter Rollestone his morteste and silver bason.

To his daughter Rebecca his great silver tankard standing upon 3 lions, his candle, cup and 2 porringers.

To his grandchildren, Charles Singleton, Elizabeth and Mary Singleton a silver tankard, a silver porringer and 2 spoons.

To his grandchild Susan Rollestone, his late wife's godchild, his little silver tankard, his silver tableplate "that goes abt. ye House", his silver sugar box and spoon, with his silver chamber pott, a porringer and 2 spoons.

To Mary Rollestone a silver porringer, 2 spoons and a tankard.

If there is not sufficient plate (i.e. tankards, spoons and porringers) to be divided among his grandchildren, the executors are to make up the deficiency.

To his daughter Rebecca - his trencher plate: the residue of his plate to be divided among his 3 children, John, Elizabeth and Rebecca: to Rebecca for life and after to Susan Rollestone, his little silver cup.

To his grandchildren as follows:-

To Charles Singleton £600.

To Elizabeth Singleton £400. £10 a year to be paid her out of the profit of her legacy for her disbursements.

To Mary Singleton £300.

To be paid at 21 or marriage: interest £4%.

To Susan Rollestone £400 ) To be paid at 21 or

To her sister Mary £300 ) marriage: interest £4%

To be paid within 9 months to their father, John Rollestone, to be disposed of by him for his children's use.

£10 is to be paid to Susan out of the profit of her legacy for her own expenses. John Rollestone to give his own bond.

To his friends, Mr. Meade, Mr. Lawrence, Mr. Griffith and Mr. Silvester, Ministers, 40 shillings each for rings.

To his friends, Mr. Deane, Mr. Bretland, Captaine Howell, Mr. Jenkins and Mr. Hill 20 shillings each for rings.

To his servant, Jane Barnes, is she be with him at his death £5: to his daughter's maid 20 shillings and to Joseph Allen 10 shillings.

To the poor of Mr. Meade's congregation at Stepney £5.

To the poor of the parish where he now lives and the poor of the parish of St. Bride's 30/- each to be disposed of by his executors.

£200 to be set aside for the following uses:-

£140 for mourning for son Singleton, son Rollestone, son Hopkins, Bro: Barnes and their wives; his sister Jane or £4 in money, his sister Fisher, his grandchildren, maid and daughter's servant.

£60 for funeral expenses.

To his cousin Ann Bridgman 3 "pillowbeers", 1½ doz. napkins, a dozen towels, 2 pr. sheets, 2 tablecloths.

The rest of his linen to be divided equally between his daughters, Elizabeth and Rebecca.

To his daughter, Elizabeth Singleton, £10.

John Singleton appointed executor.

Witnesses: William Burnha, Thos. Willimott, Peter Barrett, notary.

Memorandum: Goods sent down by him to his house at Staines and listed, to be divided like the linen equally between his daughters; otherwise the executors to pay them each £10. 30 March 1691.

Witnesses: Joseph Cracker, John Rollestone, Saul Tomlins.
