(A) Extract from a letter to Marlborough from [John de] Robethon [secretary to the elector of Hanover] of 17 June: the elector does not wish to take command of an army which must be defensive. He thinks [Baron] Thüngen should replace the aged elector of Bayreuth, and that reinforcements should be sent from Brabant.
(B) Extract of a letter to Marlborough from the elector Palatine of 27 June: his envoy to the court of Hanover reports that the elector has not only agreed to command the army, but will bring with him a large body of troops at no charge to the empire. The elector Palatine has written to Vienna to expedite the appointment.
